About us

A small team in Kathmandu, building for hotels.

Tathyastra is a hotel management and distribution system made in Nepal, for properties that want their front desk, their books and their online listings to hold the same story.

How it started

It began with a day close that took a morning.

We spent a season sitting behind reception desks in Kathmandu and Pokhara, watching how the work actually gets done. Good hotels, run by careful people, spending their mornings making four different systems agree with each other.

Almost everything in Tathyastra traces back to one of those mornings. The drawer that would not balance. The rate that reached a travel site a day late. The bill a guest asked about at checkout that nobody could explain without opening a spreadsheet.

So we built one system where a booking, a bill, a payment and a listing are the same set of facts seen from different desks, and gave it the tax rules, the currencies and the cash habits that hotels here actually use.

What we care about

Three ideas the whole product hangs on.

01

One set of numbers

There is a single definition of a night, a rate and a payment, and every screen reads it. The occupancy on your dashboard, the revenue in your report and the notes in your drawer describe the same day.

02

Plain language, always

A figure that was capped says so. A report that had to leave something out names it. A difference in the drawer is recorded with the reason the person gave. Everything the software does, it tells you in words you can repeat to your owner.

03

The guest at the desk comes first

Somebody standing in front of your receptionist with money in their hand is never told to wait because the system is busy with something else. Where we had a choice, we took the payment and made everything else cope.

Working with us

A few properties at a time, done properly.

We take on a small number of hotels at once so each one gets a real setup: your rate sheet gone through line by line, your travel sites matched room by room, and somebody of ours on the phone for your first day close.

After that we stay in touch. When you tell us something is awkward, it tends to turn up fixed a few weeks later, because a hotel telling us how the work really goes is the most useful thing that happens to us all month.

What a walkthrough covers

  • Your rooms, plans and rates put into the system while you watch.
  • A booking taken, changed, billed and settled from end to end.
  • A day close run against a drawer, including a deliberate mistake.
  • Your travel sites, and what moving them across would involve.

About forty minutes. Bring your rate sheet and the booking that always causes trouble.
